SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) – What's going around your neighborhood? We're checking with area doctors along the Wasatch Front every week to see what ailments are affecting your children.

Doctor Tom Metcalf with Wasatch Pediatrics said he is seeing a number of positive strep throat cultures.

Some Salt Lake City children are also suffering from gastro-intestinal upset, more commonly known as the gut flu. In South Jordan, Dr. Zak Zar-Bock with Families First Pediatrics said it's not the flu, but the flu-like symptoms that are spreading in his area. Those include a fever, cough, runny nose and body aches.

With springtime's high pollen counts he's also seeing a lot of allergies. Those can be treated with children's cough syrup.

At Cottonwood Pediatrics in Murray Dr. Joseph Cramer said he is seeing a few cases of fifth's disease also known as Erythema Infectiosum, an infectious rash that appears on the face. Because it is a viral disease, antibiotics can’t do much. He suggested rest and fluids.

Check back next week to see what's going around.
