SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - What's going around your neighborhood? This week in Layton Doctor Shauna Gagner with Intermountain Kids Care says she is seeing a lot of viral vomiting and diarrheal illnesses. Many of these children have been positive for Rotavirus-- which often causes dehydration. Rotavirus is very contagious, and good hand washing is very important to stopping the spread.
In South Jordan, Dr Zak Zarbock with Families First Pediatrics says he is seeing a number of positive strep throat cultures—something we have seen a lot of in the past few weeks. Symptoms include any combination of sore throat, fever, abdominal pain and sometimes even a rash. He says to treat with appropriate antibiotics.
Even though it is sunny and beautiful outside Dr. Joseph Cramer at Cottonwood Pediatrics in Murray says he is seeing children with Sub-optimal Vitamin D levels--meaning kids aren't getting enough sun. He suggests balancing exposure, while avoiding sun burn.
We'll check back next week to see what's going around.
