1st all teams should make sure their helmets are reconditioned every year - schools HAVE to invest money in that. New helmets, new pads, etc. You can't just recycle things for 10 years. 2nd players need to learn how to tackle right. No more leading with your head. Didn't watch the game, don't know if the kid did or didn't just a general observation. 3rd players need to be healthy, nutritionally, hydrated, and conditioned correctly. Football is a contact sport and is very rough, but there are things you can do to prevent injuries. Not eliminate, but prevent. Perhaps a story on the condition of helmets at our local high schools is a better story???
