Sentencing set in Utah doctor's pain pill case

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - A Brigham City doctor convicted on dozens of federal drug charges is set for a sentencing hearing.
Dewey MacKay is scheduled to appear Monday in U.S. District Court in Salt Lake City. The hearing is expected to last three hours.
The 64-year-old doctor was convicted of 40 charges in August related to a prescription drug operation that resulted in the death of a patient.
In court papers, prosecutors say U.S. District Judge Dee Benson should sentence MacKay to the minimum mandatory sentence of 20 years in prison.
Defense attorneys want MacKay to remain free pending an appeal. They say MacKay isn't a flight risk and has a history of military and community service. They also say MacKay's many health problems would make prison time difficult.
Prosecutors oppose the request.
