If you've been steering clear of deep fried foods to stay healthy, a new study may prove you can still fry your food and eat it too. That study, in the British medical journal, shows that in certain Mediterranean countries there is no association between fried foods and heart disease. The main difference is they use olive oil and sunflower oil instead of products like lard and vegetable oil in their fryers. But the study also shows Mediterranean people, in general, are healthier. And even if frying with lighter oil is healthier for your heart, the act of frying contains more calories, so it won't be kind to your waistline.
Still, the news was good enough for Carissa Allen to think about giving olive oil a shot.
"I think it's great I would definitely want to use that but it's probably more money which is always the hardest part," Allen said.
We looked into the price difference online. 17 oz of olive oil costs about $9.00 while 32 oz of vegetable oil is around $4.00.
