SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - Experts tell us that eighty-percent of women have cellulite. Somehow, at this time of the year, it doesn’t make it any easier to accept. That’s what patients seeking a new treatment tell ABC 4. It’s called VelaShape, but does it work?
According to proponents, VelaShape offers the benefits of liposuction without invasive surgery, downtime, or risk. Clinic operators say VelaShape uses infrared light, deep tissue massage, along with vacuum pressure, to metabolize fat and break down cellulite, in trouble spots like thighs, saddle bags, under arms, and sagging chins.
The VelaShape device has been cleared by the Food and Drug Administration. The FDA gives it approval for the “temporary reduction in the appearance of cellulite”.
Utah patients tell ABC 4 they have lost anywhere from three-quarters inch to three inches off their thighs with VelaShape treatments, and the treatment has lasted up to two years without the fat coming back.
Still, experts warn that VelaShape is life-style dependent and without a change in diet, or proper exercise, the trouble spots could again give you trouble.
It usually requires four treatments per trouble spot, at a cost of two-thousand dollars, but as many as eight treatments may be needed to achieve the desired results.
There is also a little discomfort involved, and patients can resume normal activity immediately after receiving treatments.
Those ABC 4 spoke with say despite its cost, it is still a bargain when compared with the cost of liposuction surgery, and the downtime of recovery.
