SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - Despite some concern, Utah has awarded its very first resort liquor license.

This means one resort can serve booze at a restaurant, a bar and elsewhere all with one license.

Buried in this year's historic alcohol bill, was a somewhat obscure provision creating resort licenses.

But until recently, the DABC had not had a single applicant for a resort license since the law passed.

And that's where the new Deer Valley St. Regis Resort comes in.

Tuesday, St. Regis was awarded the state's very first resort liquor license.

Instead of making a resort get one license for its restaurants, bars, etc.,

Utah now has an inclusive resort license, good for almost the entire property.

This means St. Regis can cover a bar, wine vault and two grills with one resort license.

But there is a "but" here.

The legislature created this resort license for ski resorts only.

State Senator John Valentine, who sponsored the historic alcohol bill, tells ABC 4 there was some concern about the resort license.

Specifically, about whether it might go too far and, perhaps, create unforeseen problems.

That’s why there are only four resort licenses and now St. Regis has one of them.

It is scheduled to open on November 24th.
