SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - Republican presidential front-runner Mitt Romney will soon be getting some help campaigning in Iowa.
ABC 4 News has learned that Utah Congressman Jason Chaffetz will be joining Romney on the campaign trail.
The congressman tells ABC 4 that Romney asked him to hop aboard the presidential campaign bus.
Not just in Iowa, but New Hampshire too.
Chaffetz will start the new year helping his old friend.
Early Sunday, Utah’s Third District Congressman will head to Iowa, just two days before the state's presidential caucus.
Wednesday, Chaffetz spoke with ABC 4 over the phone,
"I think he's seen as the steady, smartest choice. I think he's shown a degree of professionalism and poise that maybe the others have struggled with."
And Chaffetz can help Romney in Iowa.
While some Republicans may still view Romney suspiciously as being too moderate, Chaffetz is well known and liked in conservative circles,
"I've got some pretty solid Tea Party credentials and, at this point in the process, that's a healthy thing."
Perhaps, the most interesting comment from Chaffetz came at the end of our conversation.
Especially, when he talked about his support for Romney over the other Republican candidates,
"I've heard him in very private settings tell people and reassure other members of Congress that, look, I am not going to embarrass you."
Now, it's interesting that Chaffetz will also campaign for Romney in New Hampshire.
This is the make or break primary for former Utah Governor Jon Huntsman.
Chaffetz used to be Huntsman's Chief of Staff.
