Gary Richard Herbert is the 17th and current Governor of the U.S. state of Utah. Having served as the sixth Lieutenant Governor of Utah from 2005 to 2009, he assumed the governorship on August 11, 2009, following the resignation of Jon Huntsman, Jr., who was appointed United States Ambassador to the People's Republic of China by President Barack Obama. Herbert was elected to serve out the remainder of the term in a special election in 2010. He is seeking election to a full four-year term in 2012. Herbert is an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, a husband, and a father of five.

Peter Cooke is a retired two-star general, small business owner, husband, father of five and a Democrat. During Cooke's childhood, his father worked for Pan American Airlines, requiring his family to move from New Jersey, Florida, Thailand and Germany, where he graduated from Frankfurt American High School in 1967. Peter earned both a bachelor’s (1971) and a master’s degree (1973) in political science from Utah State University. His 39-year career in the military began in Logan where he enrolled in USU’s Army Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) in 1967. Cooke retired from the military as a 2-star major general in the U.S. Army Reserves. Cooke is an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, a husband and a father of five.
