COTTONWOOD HEIGHTS, Utah (ABC 4 News) – A couple locked themselves in their bedroom and feared for their safety after an intruder broke into their home, according to a 911 call released by Cottonwood Heights Police Department on Wednesday.

The burglar occurred at the Shady Ridge apartment complex on 7170 South.

The owner of the condo stayed silent when the operator asked what the emergency was. The owner then starts to whisper.

Parts of the call are released below:

Operator: “There's someone in your home?”
Man: “Yeah”

Operator: “And where are you in your condo?”
Man: “In the bedroom.”

Man: “You have to hurry. We're scared.”
Operator: “OK, we do have police in the area.”

Wilfred Vigil allegedly broke into the couple’s home. He is charged with burglary and intoxication.

The 911 call also revealed the couple identified the intruder as their neighbor. They said they have had problems with Vigil before.

Police said Vigil has a history of aggravated robberies.

A friend of Vigil’s said he forgot his keys to his own condo and accidentally broke into the wrong one. Police said they don’t believe that story.
