SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - The new Harmons grocery store is one of the crown jewels of the new City Creek Center.
And ABC 4 got an exclusive tour from none other then Bob and Randy Harmon.
The two Harmon brothers proudly walked us around their new 67,000 square foot downtown store.
The LDS Church wanted a grocery store in its new billion and a half dollar development and, boy, is it getting one.
Big, environmentally friendly and kind of stylin’.
Oh.
It will have food too.
Bob Harmon told us it will have,
"Fresh salads, soups, sandwiches, barista bar, artisan pizza, chef prepared entrées and much more."
There will also be an area for cooking classes, a community meeting room, a post office and an
eating-seating area for about 400.
The Harmons traveled far and wide to check out other grocery stores.
They did this in order to create a unique, urban shopping experience.
Randy Harmon told us,
"I think we've both been fortunate enough to see some stores similar back east and different places. I could never envision it being in Utah but we're big city now."
This grocery store is very important to the City Creek Center.
This new Harmons provides a close, walkable grocery for those living in City Creek housing.
Also, it gives something very valuable to the entire downtown area, a place for hungry, overworked professionals to grab some late night food.
ABC 4: "According to my sources, you're going to have a special "Chris Vanocur can't cook - to go" section?”
Randy Harmon: “That's right. 20 feet from the front door. Just for you man. Ha ha."
The Harmons are calling this downtown store “sweet sixteen” because this is the 16th Harmons store.
And when will it open?
February, 15th 2012.
Exactly two months away.
Btw - the Harmons say their new store's daily hours will be 6am to 11pm.
