I just got back from the 8th annual Muscle Team Bash, a benefit for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. It was held at the Energy Solutions Arena. It's alway a fun event, with a silent auction and a live auction and good food and good friends.
The thing that impresses me the most is the number of coaches and athletes that show up to lend some "muscle" to the MDA. The list tonight was impressive, as always. Jerry Sloan, Scott Layden, Gary Briggs, Kyle Whittingham, Ron McBride, Chad Lewis, Bill Marcroft, and Alex Austin were among those in attendence. Greg and Megan Marsden were honored, as was county commissioner Randy Horiuchi.
I was asked to emcee the event, along with Ch. 2's David James. The dress was sports formal, so I wore a tuxedo and gym shoes. I'm not sure how it looked, but it was much more comfortable than wearing dress shoes!
The goal was to raise money thru the auctions to help benefit the MDA. One of the items in the live auction was a $70,000 boat! Some supporter with deep pockets got it for $50,000, which was a real steal, but the money all goes to a great cause.
Other items included a dinner with Frank Layden, one with Kyle Whittingham and another with Jerry Sloan. Can you imagine how cool it would be to sit and listen to any of those guys while enjoying good food and knowing you were helping a great cause? Man, the stories they could tell...
It was a great evening, and I'm already looking forward to next year.
