"So, you're the new guy?" It's a question I'm not used to hearing, but it goes with the territory when you're -- well -- the new guy.
Let me introduce myself, in case you're interested. I have relocated to Salt Lake City for this wonderful opportunity at Channel 4, but the move follows more than six years at the
CBS station in Providence, Rhode Island. That's where I did everything from general assignment reporting to anchoring the weekend -- and eventually the weekday morning newscasts.
This business is filled with great (if not slightly unbalanced) people, so my new co-workers in Utah are similar to my former co-workers in Rhode Island. You can probably relate if you've changed jobs but stuck with the same career. Does that make sense? Listen, I tend to blog like I'm thinking -- so it can ramble, seem confusing or just go in odd directions.
If you stick with me, you'll realize that I'm kinda obsessed with this whole internet "thing"... I tweet on
Twitter, I'm always on
Facebook and I kept a blog at my last station that had record hits and won awards. Actually, it won a single award. Okay, truthfully, it was the reason I was named "Employee of the Month". I know, it's not a Murrow, but it's worth bragging about. (Do you see how I digress? Sorry.)
Back to the point, which was...? I think I'll leave it there for now. I promise, I'll have intelligent things to say from time to time, but feel free to post a comment or email me directly at
mzinni@abc4.com.
(By the way, I'll eventually get a little crazy with pictures and video clips that I shoot on my cell phone... But we're just getting to know each other and I don't want to scare you away.)
