Herriman, Utah (ABC 4 News) -A California couple and their two children moved into their new Utah home Saturday. This isn't just any house. It's the Herriman home modeled as an identical copy of the house in the Disney movie '"Up". Despite its Easter egg colored exterior, or maybe because of it, they say it's positively perfect.
The Hamblin family, of Petaluma, says they are home at last. Lynette says they had searched for months for the right house in California. "That’s what I was telling our realtor we want an “Up” style house, no this doesn’t' have the “Up” feeling, and no this doesn’t' have the “Up” feeling."
That “Up” feeling is exactly what Bangerter Homes created in this Herriman neighborhood for a home show. It’s even recognized by Disney as the "Up" house. But Lynette says it wasn’t' just the architecture the Hamblin family found appealing. “It was about the up vibe in the house. Carl and Ellie had such a love for each other, and like a zest for life, even though they had some downfalls a lot of people across the world can relate to those downfalls."
Like the couple in the movie, the Hamblin’s say they also have a strong relationship and share a crazy love for anything Disney. Clinton says they’ve taken some ribbing about their Disney obsession. "We’re big Disney fans you know even before we had kids we've loved Disney we are kind of dorkey like that."
Clinton heard about the up house while in Utah visiting and ailing grandmother. He says he and Lynette knew what had to be done. "It just felt right, there was no question it just felt right.”
Lynette says the “Up” house was also the right price, and square footage. It even had the blue retro-appliances in the kitchen she had been shopping for when looking at homes in California. The Hamblin’s say their “Up” house includes all the magic you would expect from Disney.
"It was a dream come true." Lynette says.
The Hamblin’s say they have no plans to change anything about the up house. They plan to grow old in the home together just like the Disney characters, Ellie and Carl.
