SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - The Chua Tam Bao Vietnamese Buddhist Temple was re-dedicated Sunday after a major expansion and renovation.
Susie Ahrens says it is also a new beginning for believers in the Salt Lake Valley. "It is very important for us, for the Buddhists, because we need a temple to go to and this is a refuge for our souls, and we need a place to come and socialize and practice our faith."
The Buddhist faith has been in Utah for a century. The Buddhist Temple at 469 North 700 West in Salt Lake City was built in 1984.
Growth of the Vietnamese population in Utah, and the Buddhist faith made the recent expansion necessary, and possible. Ngyen Song says Sunday was a day of celebration. "I think this is a great day for the Vietnamese Buddhist community because it evidence of the growth of the community"
Sunday’s celebration was attended by abbots, monks and nuns from other states as well as local dignitaries.
