PROVO, UTAH (ABC 4 News) Tiny princesses took an enchanted journey in Provo Saturday. But, this Princess Festival is not about beauty, or finding a handsome prince. It has a different message.
Little Annalaya enjoys being a princess. In fact, if you ask her what she likes the most she says "everything".
Most won't recognize the princess Annalaya is emulating with her pretty pink costume, or Purity's princess either, she's dressed as Mila. Her royal duties may not sound like the typical princess. "I clean up garbage where ever I go."
The Princess Festival, now in its third year, has hosted thousands of princesses and their mothers. Lynette Brown says she enjoys the festival as much as her daughter. “She dresses up like a princess, loves me, and the characters, learns the characteristics that make a true princess, and I love that too."
Parents say the magic of this festival is that it teachers young girls that it's not what's on the outside that matters, it's values like kindness, courage, and acts of service that make you special. Brown says putting on makeup and princess finery is just part of the fun. "Any girl can dress up and get their hair done, and get their makeup done, or whatever they think that they are beautiful, but what really counts is what's inside." They say it's a message they get from the festival, not from society.
Part of the proceeds from the Princess Festival are donated to help find clean water sources in regions of Africa.
The festival runs through December 23rd. To find out more about the festival you can visit
