SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) -There's a new report showing the health of Utah counties from the best to the worst.
Where you live matters. That's the message from the Robert Wood Johnson Health Foundation. It released its annual County Health Rankings Tuesday. The health of residents is ranked based on rates of smoking, excessive drinking, adult obesity, childhood poverty, single parent households, violent crime and whether they have health insurance. The healthiest areas in Utah are also those with the highest availability of primary care physicians, social support, and levels of education.
Morgan came in first, followed by Cache, Utah, Summit, and Davis counties. At the bottom of the list, Duchesne, Sevier, and in last, Carbon County. One in five adults reported being in fair to poor health, and obesity is more common as is excessive drinking, smoking, low birth weight, and premature death.
Salt Lake County came in number 12.
Utah is still one of the healthiest states in the nation ranking 7th, although the overall health of Americans has declined nearly 70-percent in the past two decades.
