SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - Everyday Utah drivers are driving each other crazy; rushing around, slamming on the brakes, and causing accidents or traffic jams. Here are the top annoying driving behaviors.
How do you feel behind the wheel? 62% of drivers say they feel frustrated and 43% say they feel angry. So, what's bothering you in the comfort of your own car? Lauri Wootton says it's folks who don't know where their turn signal is located. “Signaling, I think signaling. Just people don't signal."
The Michelin survey shows failing to signal came in number at number four on the most annoying things drivers do. 85 % say they can't stand it. The next is closely related. Number three on the bad behavior list? It’s changing lanes unexpectedly. It also weighed in as very annoying with 85% of those surveyed. Lauri Wootton says it puts everyone at risk. “It’s dangerous and we drive like crazy people on that freeway and even downtown here I have noticed people just cut in front of you and no signal."
And speaking of cutting, the second most annoying thing you can do behind the wheel is cut people off. 91% of drivers say that might spark some road rage. Emily Patten says it’s at the top of her list. "The most annoying thing is when you are driving on the freeway, and there's a lane that has to merge, and someone drives all the way up to the very end and cuts everybody off when merging. They just can't merge with the general flow of traffic."
And finally, the number one most incredibly annoying thing you can do behind the wheel? 94% of people surveyed say it's tailgating. Tony Elegante says it ranks pretty high for him too. “It makes people feel claustrophobic you know, this guy is like right on my grill, and just get out of my way."
Following too closely is also on the Department of Safety’s radar for causing accidents that result in a large number of injuries and numerous deaths in Utah every year.
