In Disney’s newest film “The Odd Life of Timothy Green” a childless couple (Jennifer Garner & Joel Edgerton) are at an emotional impasse. Not able to conceive a child, they are on the brink of accepting that they will never have children.
Then, on the eve of moving on with their lives, they write their wishes and hopes of what their child might have become down and bury them in the garden.
That night a little magic happens and low and behold a boy (C.J. Adams) appears from nowhere. From that moment on a family is born as they begin a wondrous journey into parenthood.
“The Odd Life of Timothy Green” is simply one of the best family films I’ve seen in a while. Moving and touching with the right amounts of humor and wonder, Disney shows us some of the movie magic they became synonymous with in years past.
Jennifer Garner is well cast as Cindy Green, a woman who desperately wants motherhood. But there’s nothing over the edge here, she is intelligent, loving and calm. Yet Garner methodically conveys all of the inner emotions her character is feeling.
Likewise Joel Edgerton (Star Wars) is wonderfully cast as the husband whose quiet strength is tempered with his inner disappointments.
C.J. Adams (Timothy) is a breath of fresh air as he gives his title character an innocence and believability.
All in all “The Odd Life of Timothy Green” is the best family film of the year.
Don’t miss it. It gets an A and is rated PG.
