Let’s get right to it. “21 Jump Street” is hilarious.
It’s a well-written, funny “buddy picture” (based on the 80’s TV series that launched Johnny Depp) that’s not afraid to be adult silly fun.
Starring Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill (who also produced and co-wrote the screenplay) “21 Jump Street” pairs the two as opposites. One, a tall handsome slacker and the other a mousy overachiever, who find themselves in a symbiotic friendship while trying to graduate the police academy.
Then, after a bad drug bust, the two are assigned to a cancelled 80’s police program where young-looking cops infiltrate high schools to weed out drug dealers.
Stealing the show is Ice Cub as “Captain Dickson,” the leader of this task force. Cube does a knee-slapping job as the “stereotypical” angry, black Captain whose temper is only matched by the short fuse it’s attached to.
It’s rare thing when everything works in a comedy like this, but it does!
“21 Jump Street” is one of the best times I’ve had in a theater in a while.
Just a word of warning - if you have a problem with extreme adult humor and language, stay away.
Otherwise buy a ticket and enjoy
“21 Jump Street” gets a very solid B and is rated R.
