SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (ABC 4 NEWS) - This year many American's and Utahn's are feeling a little more patriotic and grateful for the brave men and women who serve or have served in the military. Today there are several events to honor them.
Special events honoring Utah veterans are planned throughout the Salt Lake Valley on Veterans Day, Wednesday, November 11th.

Panel Discussion: "After the Battlefield: Advances in Medical and Psychological Treatments of Veterans Today and Tomorrow"

The panel's topic revolves around the present and future of military medicine - what is being done now and what future problems and treatments might look like.
11 a.m.
Full Dress Military Ceremony and 21-Gun Salute
Ballroom, Olpin Union Building
The ceremony will pay tribute to 11 Utah veteran honorees, who will receive honorary medallions followed by a cannon salute. The Honorees are veterans of World War II, the Korean War and Vietnam.

Salt Lake County Mayor Peter Corroon and Youth Services will be joining together for a Veterans Day celebration on the plaza at the County Government Building, 2100 S. State St. Corroon will deliver a speech in honor of veterans, the East High Junior ROTC will present a flag-raising ceremony and the West High School choir will sing a number of patriotic songs.
LGBT Veterans Rally at the Utah State Capitol

On Veteran’s Day, the Utah Pride Center will host a rally at noon in the State Capitol Rotunda to recognize LGBT veterans and active-duty service members. State Rep. Christine Johnson, a Salt Lake City Democrat, plans to announce a resolution urging Congress to end “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell.”
11 a.m.
The City of Taylorsville will host its first annual Veterans Day Celebration at City Hall, 2600 W. Taylorsville Blvd. The program will include a flag ceremony, musical selections, a keynote address by Mayor Russ Wall and an announcement of the winning design for the city's new Veterans Memorial.
9:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.
Studio One Photography offers free portraits and prints for military families. Families must call 801-290-2893 to make an appointment before 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday November 11, 2009. The studio is located at 435 West 400 South in Salt Lake City.
There are also a few restaurants offering a free meal or discount to veterans. We've got a link to that information. Applebee's, Golden Corral and Chick-Fil-A are offering the free meal.
