This is just what we need--self-sufficiency and creativity instead of relying on credit cards to solve all of our problems. I'm very proud of the young ladies who are sewing their own clothes. Don't forget that the young men can do it too. And Kodiak, I would love all your old fabric ;)

Glad to hear it! Sewing brought me freedom as a young girl in a poor family. My mom couldn't sew but bought us kids a machine because she knew it would open doors for our three girls. We looked at store bought clothes and made our own. That's how I got clothes. But today the limiting factor is the costof fabric - and finding GOOD fabric. I've made curtains, bedspreads, pillows, suits, blouses, dresses, etc. etc. But now I'm a little too old. Anyone interested in yards and yards of wool, silk, fine polyesters, knits, chinz, and more?
