SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Among issues voters will decide on Tuesday in municipal elections is a $125 million bond measure to build a new public safety complex in Salt Lake City.
The Salt Lake City Police Department has been holding weekly public tours the last two months to give voters a look at the condition of the current building, which evidence technician Haley Takoch says includes leaks that require plastic to cover shelves filled with evidence.
But some are criticizing Salt Lake City Mayor Ralph Becker's preferred choice of where to build the new complex.
University of Utah planning professor Steven Goldsmith says building the complex across from Library Square would not entice private development in the area.
Becker's senior adviser, Helen Langan, says a final decision on the location has not been made.
