SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - Republican Representative Rob Bishop released the following statement regarding Sunday's health care overhaul vote:

“I am proud to say that I was one of the 212 Members of Congress who opposed the Democrat’s freedom-robbing healthcare bill. Poor process produces a poor product and this trillion dollar tragedy is about as bad as they come. From the very start, this bill was on course to be one of the most historic examples of why we must restore a balance of power in Washington.

“Over the past year, Democrats consistently turned a deaf ear to the American people and to the numerous alternatives offered by Republicans, proving that it was not about passing the best possible bill, but instead about increasing government intrusion into the lives of all Americans. This abuse of power is exactly what the Founding Fathers sought to prevent when they drafted the Constitution.

“The State of Utah has realized the need for true healthcare reform and started a process based on the needs of the state’s unique demographics that would have provided viable options for all Utahns. This vote will stop Utah’s efforts as well as those of other states working to provide tailored alternatives to this massive one-size-fits-all assault on freedom and choice. The destruction of Utah’s creative alternative is the real tragedy.

“Today is not the proudest day of this institution and I am committed, more than ever, to work toward getting this country back on track by rebuilding individual liberty and restoring the principles of Federalism on which this country was founded.”

oh and everyone of you representatives have health care and oodles of money. You know you are covered. Now REPRESENT the rest of the population and help the poor and destitute. Are you a religious person? Or just an insurance person?

Rob Bishop, what are you thinking? Republicans had years and years to fix this health coverage. (It really does need to be fixed). You didn't do anything then and you haven't helped now. You will be remembered in Nov. The Insurance industry will fail and so will our country without some kind of fix. Now, get in there and HELP the problem. Stop fighting. You representatives are all children!

Rob, Great job! I appreciate your integrity. Far too many people believe that free or extremely low cost health care is a right. It is amazing that people can afford cable or satellite television, cell phones, cigarettes and/or tobacco; but they can't afford to pay for their medical expenses. Those with free medical coverage are often far too eager to run to the doctor for almost any medical issue, rather than try to treat the problem themselves or go to an inexpensive urgent care center. The laws that require emergency rooms to treat every person who enters, no matter how insignifiant the health issue are senseless. At the minimum, people who viist an emergency room should pay a $500 minimum fee. There is absolutely no reason anybody can't pay this over a period of time. The real solution to the health care crisis was to provide an affordable catastrophic policy for serious injuries and require people to pay for routine medical coverage and not make those costs subject to bankruptcy, similar to student loans. Also, if you are an undocumented non-resident, you should be deported, if you can't afford to pay your medical bills and your host nation should be billed for the costs. We have no courage in this nation to do require people to excercise self discipline and responsiblity.

I am not trying to be rude but better bad bill than no bill. I am getting sick of republicans fighting against democrats. Don't just fight, create and you may get my vote. As of right now it is in Democratic party.

Sure, Rob. Proud again of being on the wrong side of progress. Proud of being a fear-monger. Proud of all the misrepresentations that have been made during this ugly debate. You are part of the problem, not part of the solution. I agree we need change in Washington, but you can't bring it.
