SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - Utah babies are more likely to be born with Down Syndrome, according to a new study published Monday in the journal Pediatrics.
One in every 730 babies born here have the genetic disorder. That's higher than nine other states that were studied. The average in those other states were one in 848.
For every 10,000 live births... Utah had 13.7% with Down Syndrome.
Iowa was next with 12.7% followed by Georgia and Colorado each with 12.4%, New York with 12.3%, California with 11.8%, North Carolina and Oklahoma each with 11.6%, Texas with 11.3% and Arkansas with 9.7%.
