WEST JORDAN, Utah (ABC 4 News) – Majestic Elementary school has begun receiving donations after ABC first reported that students attending school without proper shoes.
When ABC 4 News was first informed that some students at Majestic Elementary School were attending classes in sandals during the cold winter months, ABC 4 decided to take action. We now have the results.
Teachers had noticed that students were coming to school with inadequate shoes to handle the cold, rain, and snow and they cited the bad economy for the growing trend.
However, since ABC 4 aired its initial report, school officials say that Majestic Elementary has received an influx of shoes and money. As of 10:00am on Tuesday, 69 pairs of shoes and over 400 dollars in cash have been donated to the school.
The donations have come from multiple resources: Wal-Mart has agreed to give gift cards and employees with the West Jordan Police Department, along with the fraternal order of police, will also be making donations.
As a next step, school officials are hoping to get employees from a local shoe store to size the children’s feet. Additionally, the school principle plans to call local retailers to see if anyone is willing to match the school’s money donations.
