Zions Bank is hosting its "Smart Women Smart Money" free financial conference on Thursday, Aug. 19, at the Salt Palace Exhibit Hall (north entrance) from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The community outreach event is designed to help women at all stages in life get back to the basics of money management. Breakout sessions will show participants how to develop their own unique spending plans, make sure their retirement savings are on track, and demonstrate the fundamentals of starting a small business.

Our keynote speaker is the author and ABC's Good Morning America contributor Lee Woodruff. She will share how getting back to the basics helped her family cope following her husband Bob's injury from a bomb attack in Iraq. She really will inspire us to get our finances in order so we can focus on what's most important in life: our families, our connections, and the beauty life has to offer.

While the event is free, registration is required and is limited to the first 2,000 women who sign up to attend. For more information or to sign up for the event, visit www.smartwomen.zionsbank.com or call 801-844-9328 or 800-737-6586.

Understanding the basics of financial planning is important for women from all walks of life - whether they're single and fresh out of college, recently divorced, or soccer moms. That's because women need to be ready for the unexpected in life. For example, the average age of widowhood is 56. Sadly, 53 percent of marriages end in divorce in Utah.

So even if we have husbands who are the money managers in the household, it's great for us to be prepared with practical tips.

The conference is free of charge because, in challenging economic times like these, Zions Bank wants everyone to learn more about personal finance, regardless of their financial circumstances. It's a great opportunity for women to come together and learn about money matters in a friendly and motivational environment.
