Premiering film “Saving God” Stars Golden Globe Award Winner Ving Rhames
Many up-and-coming filmmakers around the world will open their emails today to discover that their films will be screened in Ogden, Utah next month as official selections in the sixth annual Foursite Film Festival. The Festival will run from March 4-7 and will show films at four venues in Ogden, including the Megaplex 13 at The Junction, the Weber State University Wildcat Theater, Peery’s Egyptian Theater and the Treehouse Museum.
As one of the largest film festivals in Utah, the Foursite Film Festival will kick off its celebrations on Thursday, March 4 with an opening reception party at the Larry H. Miller Megaplex 13 Theater at the Junction. Following the reception the festival will premier its opening night film entitled “Saving God,” starring Golden Globe Award winning actor Ving Rhames (Mission Impossible I, II & III).
“The films we are showing this year will make this our most exciting festival so far,” said Scott Halford, Director of the Foursite Film Festival. “Foursite’s success is definitely underscored by our consistent ability to attract high-quality films from around the world that are all produced in good taste.”
Produced and directed in Ontario, Canada, ”Saving God” tells the story of reformed convict Armstrong Cane (Ving Rhames), who returns to his gang and drug laden childhood neighborhood as a preacher with a goal to save God – one soul at a time.
Producer Andre Van Heerden said, “Foursite’s reputation as a festival that shouldn’t be missed out on precedes them. We are honored by their decision to show ‘Saving God’ as their opening night film.”
Some notable selections to be premiered at the festival include two films produced by the Foursite Film Institute: “Forgive Me Father,” and “Her Sister’s Keeper,” which was produced in conjunction with students at Weber State University.
The festival will be showing a mix of international films, domestic films and films produced here in Utah. Visit the Foursite Film Institute Web site at www.foursitefilmfest.com/selections.html for a complete listing of official selections and to reserve tickets in advance. Tickets may also be purchased in advance at the Egyptian Theater box office.
Foursite Film Institute is a public benefit 501(c)(3) non-profit. We are committed to leading a major renaissance in the Utah film industry. Our mission is simple: To keep it all in good taste.
The vision of the Foursite Film Festival was born in March 2004 when Scott Halford, an undergraduate student at Weber State University (WSU), produced a film he wanted others to see. Halford organized the festival so that he could show his film to a larger audience in a high quality setting.
During the first two seasons, the festival went by the name “Just Another Film Festival,” and was hosted in the Wildcat Theatre at WSU. In order to make the event more attractive, other filmmakers were invited to submit their films. There were more submissions than time permitted to be screened during the first year. Submissions came from all over the U.S. and Canada. In its second year, the festival was extended to a three-day event. Nevertheless, there still was not enough time to screen all the films submitted and once again the festival attracted international submissions.
Due to the increasing success of the festival, Halford moved the location of the festival to Peery’s Egyptian theatre in historic downtown Ogden and changed the name to “Foursite Film Festival” to reflect his optimistic view on the future of independent cinema.
