Fear Factors…..
Anxiety of knowing if you are getting a fair deal.
People don't go through divorces everyday so consequently they are fearful of what to expect. A Good mediator can educate the clients as to laws and statutes while not giving legal advice so the couple can reach a fair agreement that is customized to their specific needs in order to protect the ongoing nature of their family.
2. How long will it take?
Using mediation through divorce can take 6 around six weeks from cradle to grave. However, we always allow enough time for couples to give thought to their agreements so the parties do not second guess their choices. This is also a time that they can then evaluate if a divorce is the right avenue. Perhaps marriage coaching may be better for them so they can keep their family together with the new skills they have learned. When using attorneys The average divorce is 18 to 24 months.
3. How much will a divorce cost?
Mediation is about 1/3 the cost of attorneys. When using litigation, the cost is 15k to 20 k each. We offer flat fees (unlimited sessions) as well as billable hours depending on what suits each couple.
4. Telling the children.
When telling children, both parties should tell them together. Neither mom or dad should wear a black hat, or be the bad guy. Remember, you are working in the best interest of the children. Let them know you both will always be mom and day even though you can't be husband and wife. Express to them that they didn't do anything wrong and you two are just redefining you're family. Kids want to be reassured about their friends their school and who they will live with. If you don't know the answer yet, tell them you are both working together to keep them in their same world
