SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - Utah's favorite idol is back in his home town to wrap up the first leg of his world tour. Murray's very own David Archuleta will perform his hit new singles and some old favorites Friday night the E-Center.

In his new single “You Can,” David Archuleta sings the lyric, “This is where it all begins.” For the American Idol runner-up, Utah is where it all began.

“It's just such a great feeling to come home. There's something about Utah that's so warm and welcoming," said Archuleta.

At 12-years-old Archuleta won the junior division of Star Search.

A year later he performed his unique version of John Lennon’s "Imagine" for the first time on Good Things Utah. “So I sang imagine on Good Things Utah and it was the start of something really great,” said Archuleta.

He’d go on to make "Imagine" a fan favorite on American Idol at just 16-years-old.

Now at 18, he's on a world tour, but took the time to co-host Good Things Utah Friday morning.

As a last minute addition, the audience was floored to see Archuleta walk in the studio.

“Oh my gosh I was freaking out!” exclaimed 10-year-old Sydnee Barton.

Her 13-year-old sister Sabreena added, “Wow, I was just like wow, he's really right here.”

Always the good sport, Archuleta ate a pork empanada, though he doesn't like pork. It's that unassuming nature that resonates with his fans.

“I love him, I think he's great. And just seeing him in person I just love how humble he was,” said Archuleta fan Tammy Anderson.

He’s modest amidst huge success. “I did not think I'd be doing a show at the E-Center for myself and I just didn't think this would happen. But I'm so glad it did,” said Archuleta.

Friday, March 27, Archuleta performs at the E-Center at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $25 -$35 and can be purchased at the door or at www.ticketmaster.com.

Saturday morning Archuleta heads straight for the Kids Choice Awards.

That poor boy. It was excruciatingly painful to watch him having to stand there through all those stupid cooking and crafting and gardening segments. Do you craft much, David? Give me a break. I hope this poor kid finds his back bone pretty soon, and finds a better agent.
