How many times have you been to the movie theater and ordered popcorn and soda and been asked, "Would you like a large for a quarter more?". What about super sizing your meal at the drive-thru. Or making it a combo at the sandwich shop. Even though a smaller size would have been satisfying, we tend to eat everything in front of us. That phenomenon was studied by students at Tulane's New Orleans campus. They found, in a study published in this month's Health Affairs, that up to one-third of customers agreed to an offer to downsize their lunch, even if it didn't mean less money. And, customers who did downsize ate 200 fewer calories than those who ordered the full-sized meals.
