Winter sports are no longer reserved just for those who can see.

Steve Paige, a local Utah man, teaches skiing to the blind at Alta Ski Resort.

He brought one of his star students, Brooke Sexton to GTU to talk about the experience.

Paige is a volunteer that assists blind individuals with partaking of the winter sport. He acts as the blind individual's guide down the mountain, by communicating what hazards are ahead via wireless headset.

In many ways this requires an immense amount of trust on the part of the blind, but Paige has no problem quickly developing that trust.

Alta Ski Resort offers use of their facilities at a greatly reduced price to blind skiers, allowing access to individuals that would otherwise be unable to participate.

Paige has been working in conjunction with Alta Ski Resort, and to a lesser extent Snowbird Ski Resort, to provide these services for years.

If you would like to contact Brooke or Steve, call Brooke at (801) 323-4343.
