Packing Tape
To help remove lint when you don't have a lint brush, roll packing tape sticky side out into a circle the width of your hand, place your hand in the loop and you can lift away the lint, this actually may often times work better and cleaner than a lint brush, you can also remove lint from folds and crevices this way.
Extra tip - place a flat toothpick under the tape when you are done, this will save your from gathering lint on the tape (between the tape and the cutting edge) and is easy to find where the tape starts when you need to use it again.
Scotch Tape
To help hold small buttons in place when sewing them on, use scotch tape to hold the buttons in place when you begin to sew it on, once you get the first couple of stitches in you can remove the tape.
Extra tip - when gift wrapping, get to know the three basic types, use clear transparent tape on glossy surfaces, Magic Tape on matte surfaces and Gift Wrap tape on those types of paper in between glossy and matte.
Duct Tape (or if you can get it, "Gaffers Tape" costs more, but less sticky and more flexible and breathable)
Quick temporary hem for your pants, in case you are wearing flats instead of heels or your hem comes loose during the day. Iron pants (or garment) where you want the hem to be, tape from the inside (now that Duct tape comes in so many colors, matching the color to material is not a bad idea) once tape is on though do not iron and remember to remove tape before washing, especially drying in the dryer!
Extra tip - if you have a knife handy, although duct tape can be torn, it leaves frayed edges and often curls the end of the tape, using a knife to cut the tape is often cleaner, scissors tend to get the tape stuck on the cutting surface, so knives tend to work best, tape most of what you need to then while holding the tape away from the area you are working on, slice the tape and tape the rest down. Fold the end of the roll before you stop to make it easier to find the end the next time.
Painter's Tape - the blue tape
To help hang a picture and also prevent the paint or wall from chipping when you hammer in the nail place the painters tape on the wall and mark where the nail should be hammered in. Gently hammer nail in and tear away the tape, the tape will prevent the paint and plaster from chipping.
Extra tip - When actually painting… before you put your paint brush into the paint, wrap painters tape along the metal edge, it will help prevent paint from going into the brush barrel and helps in clean up, also use the tape, much like a lint brush on new paint rollers to remove extra fluff, so it doesn't end up in your paint.
