Chimpanzees are the closest relative to humans, and they love to watch television.

So, what would a film made for chimps look like?  Rachel Mayeri set out to find out.

In her documentary titled "Primate Cinema: Apes As Family", a primatologist and actors in chimp suits present a primate drama for chimpanzees at the Edinburgh Zoo.

The eleven minute long drama is intercut with the chimps' response to the film when it premiered at the zoo.  It is at the Sundance Film Festival.

Rachel Mayeri is a Los Angeles-based media artist working at the intersection of science and art. Her projects explore topics ranging from the history of special effects to the human animal and have screened at Ars Electronica, the Getty Museum, the Arts Catalyst, and MoMA PS1.
