September is 'Hunger Action Month'.  Nearly 49 million people in America face hunger.  That is one in six of the U.S. population, including more than one in five children. Don't let their struggles go unheard.  Join the Feeding America network of more than 200 food banks and Speak Out Against Hunger.

Utah Food Bank provides food to a statewide network of 135 emergency food pantries and agencies. Last fiscal year, Utah Food Bank distributed 33.3 million pounds of food and goods, the equivalent of over 26 million meals for families and individuals in need. Utah Food Bank also served 222,837 Kids Cafe meals, delivered 31,044 food boxes and filled 19,884 kids’ backpacks for weekends and school holidays.

There are three dates where you can drop off food.
  • September 20th is 'Beat Hunger by a Mile'.  The Salt Lake City offices at 400 South State Street will be the starting point where the public will be invited to drop off food donations.  The food donations will be lined up from the city offices to the state capitol (equaling a mile).
  • September 23rd: Visit La Caille from 2:00 to 5:00 for an afternoon with hors d’oeuvres made fresh from their on-site garden. All proceeds for the evening go to benefit Utah Food Bank. Tickets are $25 per person – go to:http://www.UtahFoodBank.org to purchase tickets.
  • September 29th: A state-wide food drive will be hosted on Saturday, from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. All non-perishable food donations can be dropped off at any Wal-Mart store or food pantry or agency in your community.
