There is an entire section of wreaths at the Festival of Trees. Kathie Horman and Leann Hansen are the Chairwomen for the wreaths. They came on GTU to give tips if you want to create your own wreath.
They say purchase items year-round when you see something you love.
They suggest to spend money on quality items.
Choose a theme -- elegant, whimsical, woodsy, etc. The theme is based on the large focal point item you choose for your wreath.
Traditional Christmas colors and themes tend to work the best. Most beautiful wreaths have bows and ribbons. They suggest to place a large bow on lower left or lower right edge (4 and 8 o'clock positions). You can weave the ribbon throughout the wreath.
When you start creating your wreath, begin with the bow and ribbon, then add focal point item and then the ornaments, picks etc.
Remember to wire your focal point to the wreath, and then glue the ornaments on.
Use lots of different shapes and textures of ornaments. Use picks, sprays and greenery to create layers in your wreath.
Don't be afraid of large quantities of ornaments. They can completely surround the wreath or there can be some negative space.
Think outside the box, don't be afraid to break decorating "rules" if you love what you've made.
The Festival of Trees is November 28th - December 1st at South Towne Expo Center in Sandy.
