We asked Kirk Voss, a Marriage and Family Therapist, to give some advice for people who are in blended families.
Voss says parents need to find their own time together when they're trying to please their families and each other's children. He says that alone time for couples is critical for their relationship. And, then they will make the kids feel important too.
One of the biggest problems for blended families is co-parenting mingling... How can you decide where the time is spent, and how can you divide time between the children. It is important to keep consistency. If kids can plan on something, that makes it easier for them to adjust.
Kids need to feel like they have a voice in where they spend the holiday. Let kids give their opinions, but ultimately.. it is up to the parents to decide.
