From The Great Gatsby's looks from the 20's.. to the leather bomber jacket in Top Gun... to Madonna's lace in Desperately Seeking Susan... to classic chic in Breakfast at Tiffany's and even 80's style from Pretty in Pink... fashion responds to popular movies and books.

50 Shades of Grey is no exception.  The best-selling book is creating its own stir in the fashion world.  Amy Branan, a stylist, says leather, black, grey and high heels are all examples of the book's impact on her clients clothing choices.

Wow! I'm Appalled! This book is described as "Mommy porn," and is in the Erotica section of the bookstore. The New York Times said “It’s taboo for women to admit that they watch pornography, but for some reason it’s O.K. to admit that they’re reading this book.” That same article also states, the book contains "explicit violence and antiquated treatment of women, made especially clear in the character of Anastasia, an awkward naif who consents to being stalked, slapped and whipped with a leather riding crop." Pornography objectifies people. It's also highly addictive and destructive to individuals, marriages and societies. These facts don't change even when highly-styled, beautiful women tout the benefits of reading a pornographic novel to their now-heightened sex lives. Were they surprised that porn got them excited? Let's call porn what it is. Dressing it up in a cute package (A fashion show-The 50 Shades of Grayish-Really! Unbelievable!) doesn't make a "trashy" novel more than just that.
