The football fans in San Diego are mad, and they have every right to be. The referees blew a call on a BYU fumble, then blew it again when they saw the replay, which showed that JJ DiLuigi did in fact fumble the ball before his knee was down. The blown call allowed BYU to keep the ball and go on to score, and they beat San Diego State 24-21.
A San Diego paper is reporting the 3 replay officials were suspended for 1 game, but the MWC wouldn't confrim that. One of the officials is Chad Bunn, who is employed by the MWC and is BYU's full-time video co-ordinator. The folks in Southern Cal are beside themselves about Bunn being a BYU guy. But Bunn was working in the capacity of an engineer for that crew, supplying the referees with the video replays. The refs saw the same replays we all saw. They made the mistake, not Bunn.
Bunn is being made out to be a scapegoat. He shouldn't be. He did his job. The refs blew it.
