The Utah Open is this weekend at the Oakridge Country Club. The Utah Section PGA does a great job running the event. It is always one of the top state Opens in the country. Scott Whittaker, Annie, Devin, Scott Bringhurst and the entire staff are awesome.
But the best part for me is getting to play in the pro-am(s). I got to play in the Media Day on Monday, then in the afternoon pro-ams on both Tuesday and Wednesday. They play a "Texas scramble", where you scramble off the tee, then play your own ball the rest of the way in. That format fits my game, because I can get pretty wild with my driver. So if I can use someone else's tee shot, then play my ball from there, I'm usually pretty good.
Usually.
It was so hot up there the last few days. The temps were approaching 100. My game was not nearly as hot, however. I had lots of birdie chances, and even a couple of runs at an eagle, but I just couldn't get many putts to fall. Then I started missing greens with short irons and wedges. And I did lose a few balls up there, as I am want to do.
But overall, I had a great time. The pros are great, and I love hanging around with them. I try to get a few tips along the way, but they think I'm too far gone to even bother. The best tip I got this week was to take up tennis. Maybe by next year I'll be better...HA!
