The Utah Open is winding down. I'm a big fan of this event. Not only is it our state's Open, but its one of the better state opens in the entire country.
Back in the day, the Utah Open used to be part of the PGA Tour. Tour veterans like Al Geiberger, Bob Rosburg, Dow Finsterwald and Lloyd Mangrum all won the Utah Open. Even a guy named Palmer won here....OK, it was Johnny Palmer, but still...
The Utah Section PGA runs the event now, and they do a first class job. The pro-ams are awesome, and the tournament attracts goflers from all over the west. Its a big-time event, and goflers from otehr states know it. The pros from our state are the best. I've been fortunate to get to know many of them, and they are outstanding. Great golfers, better people.
I hope the Utah Open continues. The economy makes it tough, but so far, the Utah Open has weathered the storm, and hopefully, it will be around for a long, long time.
