Charlie Sheen has been in the news non-stop for a few weeks now. I'm sure he doesn't remember, because he never talks about it, but we met. Well, kind of....

Back in 1988, the Utah Jazz were playing the L.A. Lakers in that epic playoff series. I had only been working for Ch. 4 for a few years, and was still in awe of everything. I was in LA for the first 2 games of the series. During one of the games, we were getting ready for a live shot for the 10:00 news. But the game was still going on, so we couldn't show any action. We were positioned in one of the portels in the Fabulous Forum (which was not so fab, by the way!). We were getting ready to go live, and suddenly, Charlie Sheen gets out of his seat and comes walking over by us. He stood right by me and lit up a cigarette (remember, that was back in the day when you could smoke in arenas). I was stunned...Charlie Sheen was standing right next me!! I had about 30 seconds to get over being star-struck, and I was on live, doing my report back to Utah. But the whole time I just wanted to stop and say, "Holy cow!!!! I'm standing next to Charlie Sheen!!!"

I wonder if he tells that same story, telling people how much in awe he was standing next to me? Probably not...

I disagree, I think it was his natural magnestim towards being in front of a camera even if it meant just a brief appearance based upon observation as if to distract things for a moment, to flaunt his presence if you will.

He probably came over because he thought you were Robert Redford.
