I played in the Utah Championship Media Day today at Willow Creek Country Club. Besides the fact that it was too hot, and the fact that I suck, it was a great day.
After the breakfast (scrambled eggs, French toast, fruit and juice...you gotta like country club food!), and the press conference, I went to the range to see what kind of swing I had. I hit 10-12 balls, first with my 9 iron, then my driver. I hit them really well. Nice tempo, not swinging too hard, good balance. I thought, "This could be a good day."
But then, reality set it in.
You know how some people are good? I'm not.
I get out on the course, and on my very first swing, as I'm taking the club back, I'm thinking, "This doesn't feel right!" I chopped at it with a swing that looked something like Dana Greene jumping on a trampoline with a blindfold on...all over the place and no clue what was happening.
I struggled with my swing for the next 4 holes, before I finally got it dialed in and rattled off 3 pars in a row, and 5 pars in the next 7 holes. But the whole time I'm thinking, "What happened to that swing I had on the range? Where did that go?"
I really have one of the better practice swings you will ever see. A thing of beauty. If I could just figure out how to use that same swing with a ball in front of me...
