as Nicea knows ( or does she? it's been awhile), both my kids are expert plane travelers. It helps that their mom is an airline stewardess/flight attendant. Not too long ago, my 7 year old son Ben was seated next to an older lady, kinda far from any of his adult traveling companions. He was checked on many times by his close family members traveling with him. They said that he did just fine and as usual looked right at home. Even waited for the seatbelt sign to be turned off before making his way to the lavotory. When I finally see the kid, he's all," MOM, guess what??!!! You will NEVER believe this! I sat next to a lady who said that she was a grandma and had a grandson my exact age. She gave me food, fed me candy...." "What???!" I am silently shrieking. "Candy? Yeah... that's all my kid needs- MORE sugar. Like I haven't already paid a fortune to our favorite pediatric DDS in town.... oh, wait a minute..." Internal dialougue stops. I very calmly said, " Ben, Honey, that lady was a stranger... why did you take food from a stranger?" I KNOW I have discussed this particular stranger danger precaution. I thought for SURE he knew not to take any food/candy from a stranger, no matter what! It just goes to show, the fact my kid was in "his element" in his most comfortable environment, the last thing on his mind was not whether or not this lady was a stranger. She seemed nice. Knew how to talk to him... good thing she REALLY was nice from what it seemed. Note to self; even in the most comfortable of settings, always tell that kid to keep their guard up. No exceptions! And Granny? I appreciate your kindness, but do you realize the message you just sent my kid??? All of my hard work and efforts forgotten due to the esquisite temtation of yummy foods and candy. "Yummmy," says his hypnotized little brain. Sheesh! Someone pass the Xanax please!
