I can't ride a horse, but I may well be a cowgirl. After hanging out at the Days of 47' rodeo for a couple hours on Tuesday, I heard the word 'ma'am' no less than 30 times. What is it about those cowboys? The drawl? That 'aw schucks' politeness? The boots? The Wranglers?
Whatever it is, it is absolutely charming! And 600 contestants are riding on the dirt at the Maverick Center this week. Dirt that is 39 years old! I had no idea organizers used the same dirt year after year and then store it on a lot in Salt Lake City.
Whatever the magic mud concoction, it's working. LDS Church President Thomas S. Monson attended the rodeo on Tuesday night and so did Utah's governor.
