I did a story Tuesday of a 70 year old woman who was a pen pal with Curtis Allgier. He's accused of murdering a prison guard. She says at some point that sometimes "you come across someone special" and for her Allgier is someone special. I want to tell you about someone very very special. My Aunt. Anita HIlario lives in Billings Montana. She and her husband live in the southside which is the tough part of town. But despite their rise in fortune they never moved choosing to raise three children (two who were adopted) and being host to scores of sisters (including my mom) and hundreds of cousins. Growing up we always looked forward to going to Aunt Anita's house. I remember her welcoming us with open arms. "Tu eres familia," We are family she would say and invite us to stay at her home. All the cousins would sleep on the floor, play in the park and Auntie would cook a big meal for everyone. Big breakfasts were her speciality. Oh how I loved those memories. She later went on to become a foster parent to many of my cousins who had troubled lives. She was someone very special until alzheimers hit her twenty years ago. Her husband stayed with her taking care of her every day. He didn't want to put her in a nursing home. She passed away early this morning. She's now at peace. Anita Hilario is truly a "very special person" in my heart.
