Marcos Ortiz Blog: Deja vu all over again

I can't believe it!  Last Thursday I'm reporting on the flooding in Draper.  I felt bad for the homeowners. I know the feeling.  I'm thinking back 16 years. I was about to do a live shot on flooding in Salt Lake City when I get a call from my wife.  Our basement was flooded. I dropped the mic and headed home to see the disaster.  It was bad.  After interviewing homeowners in Draper last Thursday I asked the photographer if he wouldn't mind passing by my house...sort of peace of mind.  I get to my house and find it in a pool of water.  The backyard was a lake and the basement was sitting in six inches of water.  I dropped the mic and started cleaning the debris.  The next few days were all a blur but as I look back I fully understand what victims feel like during a flood.  And I certainly dread another flooding story where I'm interviewing victims.
