I was flooded out last week and now I'm faced with dealing with contractors to get my basement back in shape. Here's something to watch out for. A drywall specialist quoted on his ad that he could hang drywall and get it ready for paint for .35 a square foot. I have about 200 square feet of damage. I did the math and thought $100 plus some change. Not bad. I had him come over, measured and made sure he came up with similar footage. He left and said he would get back to me. He text me a quote of $500! What? I know I went to public school and got through Algebra but I knew I was getting hosed. I text him back and asked how he came up with that number? He text back and said he'd come down in price ...new quote $350. I text him back and demanded to see the computations. He never got back to me. I finally went with someone else and settled on a fair price. Get several estimates before signing on the dotted line and make sure you know what the deal is before you sign.
