Kim Johnson - I got a new ride!

What a better way to explore new trails in Utah than on a brand new bike? I decided to celebrate my one-month anniversary at ABC 4 by buying my first Specialized road bike. Those are what the cool kids ride. It’s a very basic bike called an Allez. I tend to fall on the frugal side of decision-making, so I originally tried to find a used bike on Craigslist. The problem is, I’m 5’10—unusually tall for a woman. It’s nearly impossible to find a woman’s bike with a big enough frame that I actually like. So I bought a new one at the Bicycle Center in Sugar House. The guy told me an Allez is actually a uni-sex bike. When you have my built and height… it doesn’t really matter.

I took it out for a first ride this week and went to Little Dell Reservoir. It rode really nice and I loved the view and the fall colors. We stopped at Ruth’s Diner for lunch. It was a perfect first ride. I think this weekend I’m going to tackle Big Cottonwood Canyon. I know that’s a favorite among many here. I just keep putting it off because everyone tells me it’s quite the climb. I’ll let you know if I make it!
