Hi everyone! This is my very first blog post on abc4.com and it didn’t take long to determine what I wanted to write about. Cycling!
Since I moved to Utah last month, I’ve made it a goal to explore one new bike trail or bike route a week. I came from Iowa and the amount of beautiful places and rides to explore in my new state is daunting! I didn’t know where to start. So for my first ride, I asked the guys at Salt Lake City Bicycle Company where they recommend I start my biking adventures in the Beehive State. I was there getting my tubes changed. (Yes, I know, I need to learn how to change my own tubes). I just hate getting dirty. The guys at the shop instantly recommended Emigration Canyon as a favorite among locals. So, Emigration Canyon it was.
I began from downtown and was absolutely not prepared for what “canyon riding” meant. Did I mention I came from Iowa? I got quite the workout on the ride up. I admit I even walked it in one steep part. But man, was it a beautiful ride. Stunning landscapes. I’m not in Iowa anymore. The ride back was very quick—it was all downhill. I can’t wait to do that route again.
Since then, I’ve explored the Jordan Creek Parkway Trail and the Legacy Parkway Trail. I had a better experience on the latter. On the Jordan Creek I finished with two flat tires. Apparently there are thorns on the trail which can be the death of cyclists. I will just stick to running on that one from now on. The Legacy Parkway is very nice, smooth riding. This past weekend I explored parts of Park City and Deer Valley both by trail and by road. I forgot my jacket which was a mistake. It gets chilly up there in those mountains. We didn’t have that in Iowa. Thrilled to be here, the exploring has just begun. Please send any suggestions my way!
